What is Islam? Islam is one of the world's most popular religions, and one that appears regularly in world news, was founded in the Arabia Desert south of Mesopotamia in the early 7th century, a monotheistic religion originating with the teachings of Muhammad. The word Islam means "submission", or the full amount surrender of oneself to God (Arabic: الله, Allāh).

 

 In the Arabian Desert, in towns called Mecca and Medina, Islam developed. Islam is the predominant religion throughout the Middle East, as well as in parts of Africa and Asia. About 20 percent of Muslims (person who embrace immeasurable of Islam) live in Arab countries. The second largest religion is Islam after Christianity in many European countries.

The characteristics of Islam: monotheism. How about Jesus in Islamic theology? In Islamic theology, Jesus was just a man and not the son of God; God is described in a chapter (sura) of the Qur'an as "…God, the One and Only; God, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him."

According to the Qur'an all Moslems have to suppose in God, his revelations, his angels, his messengers, and in the "Day of Judgment". Belief in angels is crucial to the reliance of Islam. According to the Qur'an, angels do not possess free will, and worship God in perfect obedience. Muhammad was God's final prophet and the Qur'an is the revelations he received over more than two decades, began preaching Islam at Mecca before migrating to Medina, from where he united the tribes of Arabia into a singular Arab Moslem religious polity, died without naming his successor and a struggle for the control of Islam ensued.

Moslem jurists consult the hadith, or the written record of Muhammad's life, to supplement the Qur'an and assist with its interpretation in Islam.
