Muslims believe that the Qur'an consists of the word of God revealed in Arabic by God to the Prophet Muhammad over a twenty-two year period. The Qur'an is distinct from hadith, which are the sayings of Muhammad. It is agreed that Muhammad clearly distinguished between his own utterances (hadith) and God's words, the Qur'an.

Muslims and most Western scholars of Islam believe that the Arabic Qur'an that exists today contains substantially the same Arabic that was transmitted by Muhammad.

In Islam Religion history, the original name of Muhammad was Ubu'l Kassim. Broodings, dreams and visions led him to the belief that he was chosen by God to save the people from spiritual and moral corruption by announcing the coming judgment of humanity and teaching faith in Allah, The One and Omnipotent God.

 

At the age of 40, Muhammad began his religious mission. In Medina, Muhammad, once a lonesome missionary, became a spiritual and military ruler and conqueror, and his religious doctrine was shaped to the religion of Islam, an institution, and, at the same time, a warlike organization. Muhammad subdued Mecca, his native town that had expelled him.

The basis of Islamic religion is the Qur’an. The remainder of the Qur’an, accomplished in Medina, contains polemics against other religious and civil legislation.

Without Muhammad's Qur’an, the world religion of Islam cannot be understood. The moral and dogmatic evolution of Islam did not stop by any means after Muhammad's death.
