He was born July 21st, 1948 in London and named Stephen Demetre Georgiou. He adopted the name Cat Stevens in 1965 and later changed it to Yusuf Islam on 4th July 1978.

 

He started making music and reflecting his own thoughts. He felt he was a Moslem: “Islam is perfect, and if we imitate the conduct of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) we will be successful.”

He have never knowingly supported Hamas or directed money to them; and use his charity worldwide to help victims of war and natural disasters, particularly children and orphans.

His honour and respect for women has only increased with Islam and his acceptance of his wife's rights.
